Our Experience

My loved one loves her one bedroom room and it has a reasonable view (not just a parking lot). This is NOT a studio style. She has a living area with a kitchenette including a refrigerator and microwave with a separate bedroom (and a nice bathroom). There was no physical move in assistance. Like most any place, there are good staff and not so good staff. Housekeeping is fair. Meals are not good. Family meals are not at all worth $8.00. The food is not the correct temperature and is poor quality. A serving of canned fruit is often considered dessert. This facility was much better before it was purchased by Cedar Creek. Many residents have moved out. My mother feels that it takes 30 +/- min for her call light to be answered. Granted, she has dementia and rarely needs to use her light, but she is still very much physically and mentally stable. There is no opportunity for trips out ie: to the store, a restaurant etc.

Very disappointed

My father in law was a hard patient but they evaluated him before they took him in. At one point they said he needed to Leave because of his language. We understood. He had never talked like that before. We had looked at several places but they wouldn't take him because he couldn't get around well. I notified them every place I checked. I had way in advance a trip to visit my grandkids in New York. When I was there he was admitted to the hospital. They called me there and said he wasn't allowed to come back and that the hospital said they couldn't keep him any longer. When I said I wasn't home, they called my husband. I am the POA. They wanted him out. He was paid till the end of the month which was just a couple of days away. The hospital was calling and I was on my way home. After 24 hours in a train, I had to find a place for him to go and it was a weekend. My life at that point was so stressful and he ended up going to a good place but no one told him he was moving. They just loaded him in an ambulance and delivered him to a new place. Hope never does this to me

Our Experience

We pulled my husband's aunt from the facility. Two significant increases in rental and services without much notice raised the rate more than 20%. Also, we had employed hospice to come alongside, who came daily during the week, thus reducing the staff burden at Cedarhurst. Yet they still raised the monthly rate of increased services. We had to call a meeting with the director. Hospice present. Care was good in the early months, and horrible in the months up to leaving there. Aunt was left in a wet bed many times. We were present everyday, so we were on top of her care. Many other deficiencies. Auntie was bed ridden, so activities weren't used. Cedarhurst did have a wonderful activities director and help. Very kind and many things for more fit residents. Director was difficult to deal with at the end. Said her hands were tied with the poor care and she couldn't do anything about it, as she had threatened people with losing their jobs. The same day that she said that, my aunt was again urine soaked through the mattress pad. I took the director with me and told her we were moving our aunt. She advised me that where we were considering moving wouldn't give auntie good care. She was wrong. It's not how much you pay or how fancy the place is, that's for certain.

Not what they sell you!!

My mom is a current resident. They really sold this place well to us but what she gets is not what they promised. They seem to be plagued with problems. They have had constant staff turnovers, and problems with finding staff. She has gone 3 weeks, at times, without having her bed changed or apartment cleaned. It is vacuumed but never dusted. The portions of food being served has gone down. Some nights at dinner due to lack of staff, she has waited 45 minutes for her food to be brought to her table. They provide transportation to doctor appointments but only if it is on a Monday or Wednesday and if you give at least a weeks notice. Now she gets hit with a 21% rate increase with no new services but continued cuts.

Not recommended

My loved one is a resident at Cedar Creek of Washington and overall his experience at this facility was great until they were bought out. Things have changed. The food is now cold and unpleasant. The nursing staff is not as attentive as they should be. My loved one was seen in-house by the NP on Monday evening. It's now Friday evening and two of her new medications have yet to be given. Both are very common OTC medications. The housekeeping has declined. My loved one's toilet is not cleaned and his room is not thoroughly vacuumed. I no longer recommend Cedar Creek of Washington to others.

They make promises for care but there is no follow through.

The experience started out good but as time went on and more care was needed, Cedarhurst made promises for increased care but never followed through on those promises. When we moved in, there were 2 RA’s on staff. Now they are down to only one. This isn’t enough for the amount of residents. Many times my loved one would sleep in and they would but the residents breakfast on the counter and it would be there for 2 hours and then when the resident got up they gave it to the resident cold. Very disappointing. They work fine with residents that are completely independent but they do not have the skills or training to work with residents with personal hygiene issues or cognitive issues.

Skip this Facilty

Don't be fooled by this newer beautiful facility or the tour. Many residents just leave after constant unresolved problems & do not bother to do the right thing and report them. Understaffed & lack of caring staff, poor food (frozen or canned). My Mom repeatedly did not get regular showers, problems with meds and many residents no one even looks in on them. High turnover of staff and directors. Many problems that they just don't care to make better. It's a business and a poor one.

Facility Knows What Good Care Is but Doesn't Do What They Promise

I would never recommend to anyone. They know all the right things that should be done but it is hit or miss if they are done, all depends on who is working. I have to visit 3 or 4 times a week in order to make sure my sister gets adequate care.

Not a good experience

The care of residents lacked dignity and respect, especially out in the general areas. Like yelling at the residents. They served meats that were so dry it was hard to chew. There were not enough fresh veggies and fruits. There were not many outside activities during nice weather. The bathrooms in the rooms are not handicap friendly for those in wheelchairs. There are no evening activities after dinner in the evenings except watching tv, residents roam the hallways sometimes for 3 hours before a staff will assist them in their rooms for care.

My tour of Hamilton Place

I toured Hamilton Place and I would rate it a 2 out of 5 all the way around. The carpet of the facility was dirty and in disrepair. The staff didn't seem to be too interested in talking to me, but more in what was going on around outside the office.

Do A Trial Before Comitting

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. I was never given a chance to use the new staff, as all the prior staff was let go. The entire memory care wing was not cared for by the prior staff. My loved one fell multiple times with no assistance with the prior staff. The staff wouldn't encourage the residents to eat in the dining room. The Executive Director tried to make amends; however, it was too late for my loved one and family. My loved one never wanted to go back because of their poor experience here.

They found out within the week she was there that they could not care for her because she needed memory care. They helped us find another place, but it was very frustrating that they did not listen to us in the first place and said they could provide the care she needed.

Missing the mark!

Facility is so short staffed that it is becoming a danger to the residents and visitors. Food is awful, and the memory care residents rooms are filthy. The resident assistants and the two nurses they do have are so overwhelmed. They have two nurses, and they work 14 hour shifts. In memory care after 3 there is sometimes only one caregiver for all of the residents. I would not recommend this facility .

Good Facility for your Situation

The food is good. The activities is good. My advice to other families, is be very careful about placing your loved one there. If the level of memory care needed, is too high , then you will not get what was advertised. There was a security issues, which led to my loved one getting out of the facility. If i could start over, I would not have went to this place.

Would Not Recommend

I would not recommend Lake City Place to anybody. My loved one's room was hardly cleaned at all the entire time she was there. They had problems keeping housekeeping staff, so they just didn't do it. The riser seat on her toilet had not been cleaned the entire time she was there. There were three staff members there who were very much bullies. When administration was not there they treated the residents awfully. They treated them like children and told them to go to their rooms. One night at dinner, my loved one witnessed another woman at her table not get served a tray. When she spoke up for her, the staff member said the woman didn't turn in an order so she doesn't get anything. And they told my loved one to mind her own business. After my loved one insisted further, they brought the other resident a makeshift meal. But they further told my loved one to mind her own business. When we went to administration about it, the staff member lied and said that didn't happen. Administration then turned on my loved and told her something difficult that went on in the staff member's personal life, which is completely irrelevant. Afterward, they retaliated against her by continually not answering her call button. So she couldn't make it to several meals because nobody would get her up to get her dressed. They also continually messed up her medications and were not open to corrections when I went to them. Again, they retaliated against my loved one in the way they administered her medications from that point onward. I have since moved her elsewhere. She is doing very well there, and they are being very nice to her.

Bad nursing care

Beautiful facility, opened too soon, can't hire or keep regular staff. Employees are constantly changing. If all you need is prepared meals, once a week housekeeping and a bit of activities the place is ok. The problems start if resident needs help with incontinence, in this case just choose a different place.

positive move - we would do it again, but if you don't have family to advocate probably not the best place for loved one

The facility is very very clean and very comfortable, truly a beautiful place. The rooms are nice, the residents are nice and the aids are great. Our loved one now aged [age removed] is very happy there and even though the adjustment was big, it was a good one which is a positive note thanks to Cedarhurst. We wish nothing but the best for this community, but we are having some issues. At times the staff are overwhelmed and we can tell. The medical side of things is a big concern - if an elderly senior needs assistance with medicine administration that is a stumbling block. They are not well equipped to handle that, the aids and nurses are very nice but the presentation and process of the medicine distribution is hectic. We can not blame the community fully, their in house pharmacy is the one that has all the medicine and notes for each residents but at times it is disorganized and that's when the timeliness of our loved ones medicine isn't consistent that is when the concern arises.
