A Place for Mom has scored Commonwealth Senior Living with 8.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 131 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Commonwealth Senior Living has 1,250 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.1 out of 5.
Kind of chaotic, staff was not really caring and helpful with pricing. I sent an email and they could not give me an amount back in response and that seemed weird to me.
Housekeeping is so poor-u can write your name in the dust. Half of memory care unit was turned into a covid unit. Staff is hardly visible. Residents are unkept and left in rooms all day. Rarely taken outdoors in available courtyard garden due to lack of staffing. 7th executive director in 5 years just let go. So sad to see what continues on & on at this place. The aides do the best they can considering how many they have to care for in a day. The company & management bears all the responsibility for this situation. Do not recommend putting a loved one here.

My loved one was dirty. His clothes looked filthy. He always wore the same clothes every day. They referred to him as a number. If I came to visit, they would call and refer to him as his room number and not his name. One time they brought down the wrong gentleman, who sat there for half an hour before they realized it was the wrong guy. It was a horrible experience. The cleaning lady would often tell me that she was sorry that the room looked like it did. She was only able to go in every other week, which was ridiculous. The staff was rude on their walkie talkies in their conversations with one another. There were a couple good ones that were friendly and nice, and you could tell they worked hard. But the majority were not good. Also, many times if I was looking for a staff member, I couldn't find anyone to help. When I finally did find them, they would be behind a corner, sitting down just talking on their phones. Also, the head unit manager was extremely rude and condescending. Their first response was never one of compassion.

When looking, I made sure Devonshire was a pet friendly community. It is not. The second he move to Assisted Living, they made him get rid of his pet. The studio apartment is nothing but a small hospital room with a small closet. No amenities, not even a small refrigerator or cabinets in the bathroom. There are no phones or computers for them to use. To speak to my dad I have to leave a message and 99% of the time - no call back. He has dementia, and I had to get his doctor to prescribe physical therapy just so he could have human interaction as there is really no dementia care and no socialization other than meals, (if they are not quarantined into their room). The lack of empathy and concern is dismaying. Nurses and assistants or in his room long enough to give him meds and no longer. I am tired I'm sending emails leaving calls, trying to get any concern or answers. Residents are not giving care plans, so there is no way to argue the services or lack thereof.

Do not put your loved one here if they are not meek and complacent. This place kicked out my aunt for while I am guardian and kept her money. She was illegally evicted, sent to the emergency room via ambulance in Feb with no coat in slippers, then abandoned there. The administration and corporate office refused to communicate with us afterwards about returning the remainder of her monthly payment. A state investigation found them in violation of wrongly discharging her (read report here [removed] Limited income allows no way to pay for litigation and they knew this. They now have $1100 of her money that would pay for her end of life expenses. She is in late stage dementia and living in a nursing home now after a severe decline from the stress of living for 3 weeks in a hospital while finding a place for her after this place evicted her. This was not needed after living through neglect from her spouse that caused a CPS investigation and a guardianship hearing. Look up their multiple violations.

Don’t be fooled by the beautiful facility, the lack of care and constant employee turn over is extremely stressful to the residents. They are unable to form personal connections with the staff because they are always getting new people or having agencies come in to cover shifts after everyone calls in. Staff would rather hide and be on their phones than actually help the residents. They offer the same activities every week rather than changing it up, even though no one goes to the activities they offer. My grandp moved to a different facility and has been MUCH happier. This place is only in it for the money.

I recently moved my mother out of The Ballentine. There is no oversight of health issues at this facility. She developed a staff infection in her eye that went undetected, loosing sight. She then suffered a stroke, also undetected. I was informed the floor staff does not evaluate residents. I implore all not to entrust your loved one to their care.

My mother resided at this facilities for over 4 years, the service at the begining was marginal; and with a change in management - there was significent improvement. We were pleased. The last 18 months, staff has changed, service has decreased, and cleanliness has deteriorated. Mom fell twice within a 2 week periord, the first time we were in the ER for over 9 hours she ended up with two black eyes, and a huge knot on her head. The second fall mom ended up with fracture of her hip. Both instances no one was watching her, thus no eyes on target.

My father is a resident at Whispering Woods, having moved in just prior to Christmas 2016. Initially, things seemed to be going good. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for concerns and areas in need of change to become apparent. We were told at the time that we toured Whispering Woods, that the facility had a lift chair available for my Dad to have in his room. The chair that was in his room, was not a lift chair and had a pretty large piece of metal protruding out the back. My Dad is a Diabetic, so he is at greater risk of developing an infection, should he have become cut on that metal. Last week, the reclining chair was replaced, but it is still not a lift chair. My Dad also has Congestive Heart Failure and has an implanted pacemaker. It doesn't appear that anyone has been weighing him daily, listening to his lung sounds, or assessing his feet and ankles . He has had so much edema in them that he hadn't been able to even get his shoes on, but rather has to wear slippers. Unfortunately, there has been very poor follow through with medication techs (who are not licensed) and the nursing staff member, who serves as community resident coordinator. We had a medication tech provide the medication sheets for the wrong resident (not my Dad's) to the personal performing evaluations on him for the Medicaid Waiver Program. My Dad, who also has Alzheimer's Disease, did not receive personal care assistance from staff until we met with one of the corporate nurses who was down to the Whispering Woods facility trying to make recommendations for improvements. My Dad reported that third shift staff members were sleeping while on shift and told him to go back to bed when he got up at about 6 am. Despite completing a several paged form with his likes and dietary dislikes, my Dad continued to be served spinach, broccoli and other unwanted selections. He was there for over a month until we were informed that he could make an alternate selection. My dad was recently started in insulin and has frequent blood glucose tests throughout the day. Despite him having continued high reading over 300, I (as his guardian) was not informed of these high readings until after I told the facility that I was looking at removing my Dad from their facility. My husband and I were very surprised and very concerned when we learned last weekend of the incident at another Meridian facility in October, where a resident walked out of the facility, and out to the courtyard, where she was found over 5 hours later, expired (dead) from hyperthermia, only 40 feet from her room. It is alleged that staff did not perform the checks on at least this resident like they were supposed to. The facility does appear to have extra staff on site, while attempting to correct the areas that appear deficient in. Unfortunately, it took my identifying that the building my dad resides in does not have a "hydration station", which is a place for residents to get water and other beverages. I believe that they are attempting to improve, but our family is touring other facilities to see if we can find more appropriate care staffing elsewhere. I would highly recommend reviewing many other facilities prior to selecting Whispering Woods Assisted Living, or any other Meridian facility.

This has been a very disappointing experience since my parent has been there. The food is not consistently nutritious and tasty. As well as the murder that occurred this past Oct.there, which is the proof reiterated of being short staffed. Some of the staff has proven incompetent of the overloaded work that is expected of them. They are not genuine in their concern for patients as several families will tell you.
