I toured Sunset Lake Village looking for a place for my husband and myself. I didn’t like this place. I really didn’t see anything spectacular about this community at all, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others.

I am having a lot of problems with them. When I took my mom there, I was told that there was an RN during the day, but she is not an RN, she is an LPN, but technically she is not even an LPN because she hasn't sat before the board. There have been several med errors; she fell and ended up in the hospital, and they didn't notify me of anything. Two different times she went without medication for the majority of the day. The so called head nurse is not head of anything. Since the new company took over it has pretty much gone to hell. I talked with the lady at the Medicaid office, and she really didn't like what she saw when they inspected the place. They are sending their top nurses out to do another evaluation. I am really upset. It is a beautiful place and in the beginning they were doing really good and the food was wonderful. Now she get to choose between a turkey or ham sandwich.

You should never ever suggest that place. I can't tell you how many residents complained about that place while my parents were there. My heart goes out to them. I pulled my parents out of there after they promised many times that they could handle the care that my Mom needed. In fact, upon leaving, the director on the other side of the building who managed the memory- care side, said that they do everything that my Mom needed and she didn't understand why the director over the Assisted Living side never collaborated with her. My Sales agent who got us the two-room unit that we wanted had told us that they understood my Mom's needs and that they would provide it even though Assisted Living normally did not. We felt that we were lied to, or money taken, or time wasted... but that wasn't the worst of it. They couldn't even keep their own promises of light "assistance" such as putting clothes away for my Mom, taking them down to meals timely, and keeping their unit clean. They were supposed to clean the unit every week. Twice, it had gone as long as THREE WEEKS. So you know how dirty the floors get after 3 weeks of not being mopped? My father's feet were BLACK. The bathroom was so filthy and unsanitary, I had to go several times to complain about it. My father, who cleans nothing, even broke down and tried to clean his toilet twice. It was awful. This is what we got for over [amount removed] a month??? Now, I have them temporarily in a first floor apartment (an apartment that I was already living). I had to get another apartment on the second floor. Here, I pay a live-in caretaker a salary that includes food, room, and board. She is able to do everything that is required FOR LESS than both apartments and her salary combined. I make all their meals and control their dietary intake so that my Mom and Dad didn't eat hot dogs and hamburgers every day because they said the food was so bad, they just gave up. My Mom now has regular baths and Dad also gets the care he needs. Bayside should not offer so-called assistance. All they want to do is pass out meds, give their residents attitude, barely provide decent food to eat, and clean whenever they could find help. I have been a manager for over 23 years. If you can't keep employees, then go get temps! Do something!!! Don't make promises that you cannot keep. My Sales manager and I had a very good rapport. While he couldn't admit any fault, he just kept apologizing. I wish he'd go work for another location that cares more about residents.

The facility is too big, 15 floors, the residents get lost in the shuffle, the med techs just leave the meds in the room and dont watch the resident take them. Respond time is unacceptable when the resident pushes their call button for an emergency. The staff do not care about the residents. They overcharge for everything, incontinence products, etc. It is a bad place to put your loved ones. I do not recommend it to anyone.

She fell many times because she wasn't being supervised much, which caused her to go to the hospital several times. Even though we were told that they would give us 2 weeks-month to find another place if she needed more care, they didn't honor that. When she was in the hospital the last time for around a week, they called to say they wouldn't take her back to the facility. The hospital was telling us she needed to be discharged. We were not physically able to take care of her at home since she couldn't walk any longer. Thankfully, I was able to speak with the original person from A Place for Mom that helped me. She was fantastic in helping us find a place for her to go. Spring Haven refused to refund us most of our deposit and while she was in the hospital. They put us in a very difficult spot and wasn't very friendly in doing so. I would highly recommend no family admit their family members to Spring Haven. There was a nurse supervisor that was great but after admission, most of the staff didn't care.

Mom had dementia and was in this place. She was often dirty as was the room. I complained about the many ants and roaches in her room. Nothing was done. Often I had to ask them to clean her bathroom and to give her toilet tissue. Her a/c never worked even though we complained many times, the food was not at all appetizing and she often said it tasted foul. Stealing seems to be a big issue as is getting the medicine to the residents (even the assisted living residents complained). Nursing staff that they 'say' is on duty is impossible to find and the rest of the staff seems to have little idea about when to call 911. We witnessed staff yelling at and belittling residents until they were crying. Their rates raise too often and yet there are no upgrades to services. There is NOTHING for memory residents to do, they offer the most limited enrichments. Also, if you leave on their terms they do not issue you the refund for rent not used that is noted in the agreement.

The nurse staff was terrible. Forced parents to go through rehab when hospital and doctors said it wasn't necessary. Venice palms would not allow them back to there apartment unless they did rehab for a week costing them money plus still paying rent while they were locked out. A disgrace. I wouldn't recommend

When my loved one was in the Independent Living section (no assistance), everyone was nice and kind, the food was hot, everything was clean. However, when she was moved to the assisted living section, things changed drastically. Assisted Living is in the back of the building - hidden, and run down. Most of the nurses acted like it was an inconvenience to do their job - bathe my loved one, give her her meds, help her to the bathroom, answer the call button. She laid on the floor for 11 hours after falling because no one answered her button. My loved one had to wait an hour for cold food at every meal. When she was too weak to walk, she went hungry because the nurse refused to push her down in her wheelchair. She had an accident (bm) in her arm chair, the staff just threw a towel over it. The head nurse was constantly trying to talk me into moving my loved one into the memory care unit (nothing is wrong with her memory). I was constantly taking her back and forth to the doctor for her blood pressure, only to find 5 of her BP pills under her chair and bed when I moved her out, which is also when I found smears of feces on her bathroom walls. I would most definitely NOT recommend Spring Haven to anyone who needs any assistance.

This is the only decent place that accepts Medicaid. The only reason we chose it. The cockroaches are so nasty even when the apartment is clean. We still see them. The renovations are like putting perfume on a skunk. If my grandma could afford other places we’d put her there. Narrow hallways and no nice places to roam around. Memory care is like a jail.

I went in to see about the place for my dad. Horrible front desk etiquette, very unprofessional, no one was available to answer my questions or get me pricing. It was 12:30 in the afternoon, and I figured I’d get someone to talk to me. I was told they were preparing for a party and no one was available. I spoke to a lady in the lobby who lived there who wished she had the money to live elsewhere because they raise the rent and things are not good with the new management. I don’t plan on going back to talk to anybody. I will probably choose another place for my dad with all the negative energy in that place.

I have a family member in Memory Care and the care is abysmal. No assistance with personal care for residents in a memory care facility... I have to shower my father myself and make daily visits to clean his room and at times even the floors and bathroom myself! Clothing, linen and towels have disappeared from my father's room, even though they're clearly marked with his name. Some caregivers are not even proficient in English, using phones to translate when communicating. How is this appropriate in a Memory Care facility? Very disappointing experience for our family. I'm grateful that we live close to the facility and are able to supervise my father's care.

My mom has lived at Spring Haven for several years and has recently been infested with bed bugs. Roaches have been an issue for a while but they can’t seem to get rid of them. They are in moms kitchen and bathroom. My biggest concern is the bed bugs! They are everywhere in the facility!! Beware! Don’t move into Spring Haven because they will try and charge you for pest control when it’s not your loved ones fault! They have done a lot of renovations but I’ve still seen them in the dining room.

Stay as far away from this chaos as you can. It starts at the top. Turnover is rampant. It’s an us versus them community. There is no respect or empathy. Credentials for aides is non existent. Workers do not respond, even to the alert system. I personally witnessed a man fall to the floor and the available aides barely looked up from their cell phones. The general manager is caustic at best. What ever happened to managers wandering around the facility saying hello and chatting with people. I’ve led a great professional life and I’ve got to say this was the worst experience of my life. Hold your loved ones close, they may be afraid to say anything.

Bayside has turned into a nightmare. The room was not cleaned upon move-in, and some fixtures needed repair, even though they had a month before scheduled move-in. None of the staff that was on board when we arrived is there now - turnover is incredible. They charged for services not provided to the tune of 3k in a 6 month period, with no attempt to rectify. He was charged for one month twice and incurred bank fees as a result - not reimbursed. Emails and phone calls go unanswered. Reported to BBB and they neglected to respond to the complaint. No PT options in-house and because they are not paying providers, care levels are decreasing and are unacceptable.

Overall my experience with this community was not good. We were not told that one resident rents the room, and the other rents the living room and they share a bathroom/kitchen. The facility was not clean and the staff was not helpful. The facility looks very dull and not a homey feeling. This community needs major improvements. However the staff at the door are very friendly.

There was no chatter between residents in the dining room during our visit. The residents didn't look happy. Some of the 1 bedroom suites had 2 doors to the hallway, and this was concerning for us. The staff were nice that we met with.

I would not recommend this facility. It is overpriced, especially for the quality of care. Some of the staff were good, but others would yell at the residents and even use profanity when yelling at the residents (my sister witnessed it). There were absolutely no activities. Their only entertainment was TV, other than a musician that would come and sing for the residents on Thursdays. They don't even have an activities director. We also had to supply the toilet paper, which was baffling to me. The director of nursing is in charge of housekeeping and the housekeeping is not great. The room never felt truly clean. My parents ended up getting Covid and we were assured several times that after quarantine, their room would be deep cleaned. That never happened and I asked about it several times. The only positives I can add is that the bus driver was nice and the food was good. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.
