Merrill Gardens

I was able to do an in person to tour at this community and it was a good experience. I was able to see a couple of rooms and everything seemed clean no fowl smells.

This facility was pleasant and had charm. The staff and residents were extremely friendly. We toured Truewood in the morning prior to lunch, and they seemed to have many activities listed for the day although none were going on at the time we were there. There was no unpleasant smell, and the facility seemed manicured outdoors. We decided on another facility as that one fit my mother in law better, but this would have been our next on the list as the price was reasonable for what they offer.

Have only been here about 5 months, so far for me i like it. There are some issues with maintenance that are inconvenient (but being addressed) Food is good and i feel pretty safe here, employees are friendly/ Property manager is making changes . There is transportation available for only 1/2 day from 7:00am - 12:30pm - i think, but you can setup side services with West Covina transportation service. (you have to do that) I would say its met perfect, but so worth considering as a good choice.

I would tell others that they make it easy to get in. They take the stress off during the move in. There are a lot of shopping centers, grocery stores, and a library close by. The community as a whole is worth your investment.

If you need memory care, the community is very nice for those residents. The community was able to provide residents vaccines. The staff has been very good at keeping us updated on any concerns or changes on my loved one. My loved one was recently moved out to the hospital and the community has been good at checking on my loved one.

The Gardens is a beautiful facility. It is more of a hospital type environment, I would say this is a facility that is the next step after assisted living.

I would tell others to definitely check it out. The social interaction and care are all really positive. The only thing I would keep in mind is this community doesn't work with dietary restrictions. You and your loved one would need to partner on this. They have excursion to stores in the neighborhood, bingo, walking club, bible studies and chapel services, balloon volleyball, and more for activities.

We chose Merrill Gardens at Sheldon Park because they had availability quickly when we needed it, we were pressured for time. Also I got a good feeling from the person I was talking to here. She was in a shared room, they had their own rooms but shared a bathroom. I did notice that sometimes they were short staffed. I recommend to others to take time to look around at other facilities and choose what best fits your needs, I wish I had more opportunity like that.

We've been very happy with them. I'm very happy with the care that my loved one is receiving. They've been very accommodating every step of the way. I feel like they've gone over and above to accommodate my loved one, which has been really nice. So far, I would recommend them.

We toured Mistywood and it was a nice facility but it was pretty pricey. It is larger so the tour was overwhelming for my mom.

The community is an excellent place for an older person, who is still able to call for themselves. It is a great transitional time, and the option is independent plus is exellent. This includes allowing the individual to stay in their own place and have a staff member come in once daily for assistance.

I would have researched it more. It sits on a dangerous street, and I wouldn't recommend the community for this reason. They don't have help to get the residents to stores or shopping. The rate is great. The manager isn't nice or the lady at the front desk. The caregivers are nice.

We chose Truewood by Merrill because of the availability and the options of care. The room sizes here are fine. I think communication with the nursing staff is really important. I like how they set up a doctor for our loved one and they work well with different insurance. They are also good with communication if there are any concerns. If I text them, it can take a while for them to answer so I think quicker response times could be useful. I would recommend to others looking.

We chose this facility because of their health record, the proximity to family, and the lack of covid cases at the time that we transferred her and their covid safety protocols. They send emails frequently and are semi responsive to requests made but I do know they are busy. My mom loves the food and has had no complaints about it. I would recommend to others looking.

Of all the other places I checked out, cost-wise this one was a whole lot better. The other places were thousands a month, and this one is much more affordable. The staff have been great to me. Even the management is nice. They're all friendly, and they all talk to me when they see me. The halls and the reception area, everything is clean. Outside is a different story. By the weekend, the trash gets overly full and people just leave trash bags on the ground and broken furniture sitting around. There is not a rating low enough for the food. It's awfully bland, and I understand that to a point. It's pretty typical institutional food. But the apartments are fine, a little small, but fine. For one person, it's a good deal.

I think that the room size for the money from what I've heard about other estates is good. Merrill Gardens is in many high expectation cities, so I assume they're meeting client demand. The staff have been very responsive, both to our loved one and our family. They know what's goin on. The move-in was impeccable. Communications about Covid have been very transparent and regular. I'm grateful my loved one is safe and well, and well cared for. We've experience more dementia-related care than physical, but they've been supportive and kind. They've handled her medications well, as well as transportation to medical appointments. With activities, they've resumed what they can when they can.

When we were considering Merrill Gardens at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson through [name removed] , A PLACE FOR MOM, we were apprehensive because there were no recent positive reviews on this property. We pointed this out to [name removed] and she was sympathetic to our concern and helped us look at many other properties that had a heated swimming pool during the winter. We have now been to Merrill Gardens at Green Valley Ranch for two months. We are quite satisfied with our choice of coming here. The general manager, [name removed] has been extremely helpful and responsive in helping us with our needs. We are now enjoying the 86 degree pool every day. The meals are wonderful with fresh fruits and salad daily. We want to thank the chief chef, [name removed]. Weekly entertainment by professionals accompanied with enjoyable wine came a pleasant surprise. [name removed], the program director, does a splendid job and works very hard in many areas for our well-being.

When my loved one visited, she didn't care for it. She found it kind of dark. It could use another coat of paint, and the common areas and courtyards could use some attending to. But when I talked to my family about Barkley Place, we agreed it was the best place for my loved one based on the care that she needed. The staff and the food is great. It's centrally located to a great deal of good medical care. It's close to any shopping you would want, the mall, Publix, Cost-Co. It's not far from the beaches. If your loved one is in better health, we wish there were a place to put in a walking path, because we see a lot of the residents out walking in the parking lot. Housekeeping comes weekly. They don't' clean the way I clean, but they do a decent job. Overall it's a very friendly community. There are some elementary school cliques, but you'd have that anywhere you go. Breakfast is a little monotonous, scrambled eggs everyday. They could use a little more variety, but overall the food is pretty good. I would recommend and have recommended Barkley Place to others.

I like the fact that I can see my loved one when needed. This works for both of us. We are able to see our loved one each day. The food is good, and they cook a lot of things.
