Would not recommend at the moment until improvements have been addressed

Have negative things about the food service. Nice and spacious, clean, parking. Food service still not good. Just spoke to a resident yesterday who said the Luau food was not good and what’s written is not what they get for their meal. That said I cannot refer others to the Ivy. It’s say because the Ivy’s location and facilities are beautiful but the food services is the downfall!

not the best for a Memory Care patients that need more help

This location is best suited for the easiest to handle clients needing the least amount of help. Not great for more difficult dementia patients. Med Techs administration of medicine is inconsistent between techs. Sometimes meds are not given causing chaos for the patients. Sales & staff build different expectations. Sales says no problem to everything. After you are checked in the response from the staff doing the actual work is quite different. Their sister location Vista Gardens does a much better job in communicating expectations and actually following through with difficult patients.

Review for Ivy Park at Escondido

I did not care for Ivy Park. My Mom was in Memory Care at Ivy Park. The home had a real lack of leadership and training of their employees and they were always short staffed. The Ivy Park management team for Memory Care liked to hide behind closed doors and was very unapproachable. No teamwork at Ivy Park and no guidance or interaction from upper management. Hopefully things will change for the better there soon, because it is a beautiful facility.

The Ivy @ Blue Oaks - Should I move my parents here?

However the place had lost their Activity Director 6 weeks prior to my mom moving in. I probably wouldn't have moved her there had I known that. It's taken another 6 weeks & she just started yesterday. The two part time Activity Director positions also aren't filled. Nothing has been happening in terms of activity. My mom is bored. She colors by herself every day for hours. No one is ever in the theater room. The residents were calling their own bingo numbers. Just overall frustration. Staff are leaving because they don't pay enough. They can go to other places who are paying $[fee removed] more an hour. There really isn't a Supervisor or Manager on shift in the late afternoons or weekends. Every day at 4:00, 20-22 mostly ladies come to the lounge for happy hour. They only have two round tables & they all sit in their chairs in a circle around each other. The residents have asked several times for more tables so they can put their drinks on the table but corporate said it doesn't look good. ????? I am getting ready to write an email to the Executive Director. I wrote an email to the Chef about the slowness of getting soup & salad & other things but he never responded. It takes forever to get an entrée. Just keep my name anonymous. For being a new facility opened in December they still have growing pains.

A lot of little concerns

We experienced a lot of delays getting our mom discharged from the skilled nursing home, and Ivy Park was very helpful in guiding us through that process. We are concerned with the lack of communication regarding her care and the care itself. My husband visits every other day on average and her hair is rarely combed, her toe nails were very long, my husband requested they cut or take her to salon, a week later my brother in law cut her nails. No one bothered to update us on the request for her to go to the salon nor had they told us her toe nails need trimming. We've been asked to provide PPE like gloves including toilet paper!! This week we had to ask the staff to put toilet paper in her room. We've never once received a call from Ivy Park providing any sort of feedback or update about anything, even after asking to schedule a dr visit. On our first day there we noticed a staff member's interaction with a resident to be callus and somewhat condescending , I left in tears. I didn't say anything because I don't want to be pegged as "that" family right out of the gates. Facility is new and seems clean, but areas with high use like dinning room we've noticed the tables and floors are sticky. Air conditioning has been out of service for over a month, since before she moved in. One of the front automatic doors has been out of service for 2 weeks... just a lot of "little" things. We are planning on scheduling a meeting with Ivy Park to review all of these things. There seems to be a shortage of memory care facilities, so the alternative seems worst or would not work for our family due to proximity or just wouldn't be the best for mom. I will say I think she enjoys the food, quality of meals and diversity of food served. Another thing to note is she's become very pale from lack of being outdoor in the sun.

Falling

My husband needed two people to help him walk, but short staff put him in wheelchair. He fell 5 times in 9 days. Husband said he was scared. Residents walking up behind him. Ratio was 8-1. Med instructions were not adhered to. We brought it to their attention. Had to pay outside agency to have someone sit with him so he wouldn't stand up. $[removed]/hr for 12 hrs for about a week. Budget being drained.

I would say their communication could be more organized. I would have liked a step by step outline of the process. There was some miscommunication in the beginning and we lost an apartment that we liked and I could have used a more step by step for the move in and drop off. They are all very kind and professional. The folks at the front desk are kind. Kyleigh the medical director is amazing.

Ivy Park Experience

In my own opinion Ivy Park is a beautiful place but overall I couldn't help feeling that the memory care side (Evergreen) is short staffed. My mom needed more care and attention than they could give her which caused her to lose weight rapidly and she also contracted Pink eye while in their care. I have no idea why Patient Zero wasn't quarantined but it spread and my Mother caught it. The short staff do they best they can do with to take care of the residents but the residents outnumber the nurses about 15 to 1. In my time visiting Evergreen I never saw more than 3 nurses working at the same time to care for the residents in that unit. Unfortunately my Mother was left unattended too much and her health was suffering because of it. She suffered from Lack of sleep and lack of making sure she was eating. If your loved one can feed themselves and voice their concerns to the staff then your loved one maybe a better candidate for memory care.

Caring Staff, But Lacking Oversight Tools for Effective Communication

My mother is a resident of Ivy Park due to her progressing dementia. While I appreciate the staff for taking on the difficult and important work of caring for individuals with memory issues, I have growing concerns about the level of communication and oversight. This facility appears to be “old school” in its operations, with little to no technological support that would allow family members to monitor care or stay informed about their loved one’s well-being. My mother frequently tells me that no one has checked on her or that she hasn’t eaten all day. With a phone call or two, I can often verify that she is wrong, but it’s unsettling that there’s no reliable system in place for family members to confirm day-to-day care without directly tracking someone down. Facilities that care for vulnerable populations, especially those with memory impairments, should have systems in place to provide transparency and peace of mind to families. Regular updates, meal and wellness tracking, or at the very least, consistent communication would go a long way. I hope the administration will consider modernizing their approach and implementing tools that improve both resident care and family engagement. In the meantime, I continue to advocate for my mom the best I can.

Would recommend

What I like the most about Ivy Park is the activities for the memory care residents, there is always something for them. I think communication between staff caregivers could be improved on

Lovely place but hospice care was not as good as San Joaquin hospice where my sister was moved to after about 9 days

The place was beautiful and staff was very nice. Unfortunately their hospice setup wasn’t the best. They have hospice ‘come in’ daily but not there most of day. Hospice rooms have NO furniture, bedding, towels, tv, etc. I had to bring in night stand, lamp, chairs to sit in, and tv with stand( cable is provided. The place sent her back to St Joseph’s hospital where she laid in a hallway for 2 and 1/2 days before being moved to other hospice place which had beautiful furnished large rooms with 100% hospice staff, and my sister finally got appropriate pain meds!!

Nice ship but needs tightening

As you may know, the entire facility was just acquired and by Westmont before this happened, they lost the executive director and the whole place seem to be in chaos for a period of time. I have difficulty knowing who to talk to about what over there and they really only reach out to me for paying the bills. I am disappointed in the level of proactive interaction with family And with. Creating. Processes that support our needs with platforms that can be used to track progress. I hope that with the new ownership, they will bring a new level of technological efficiency and better leadership and more consistent staffing. My dad likes it there and I'd like to keep him there.
