Five Star Senior Living

I think they are pretty good but she isn't happy there. The weekend we came we didn't get an ambassador assigned to us. The meals were kind of a problem for us, you can't just pay for the ones you want the meals are all included. It's clean and they are friendly, they have a lot of activities, though, I think they aren't as active as they thought they were.

The day to day cleanliness is pretty good, but there are some things that could use some attention, the carpets could be cleaned. They were very friendly when we were first looking, but once they got there they were kind of on their own. When they very first moved in, nobody came and greeted them, or introduced themselves, or even showed them around. They are able to have their pet there. They complain daily about the food. The big meal of the day is during lunch, and the dinner meal doesn't have much for choice. The entrance isn't very smooth for anyone with a walker. The apartment itself we liked a lot, the square footage is good, the actual living space is good. They have been slow getting back to them to have some help with things in the apartments.

This is one of the few properties that offered detached independent living. Nice location but outdated.

Jonathon Ellis is very helpful, but I felt like they kind of dazzled me to get us in, and then just kind of left us to our own devices once we were in. There is no orientation, or "welcome wagon", there was no introduction. They really don't have any help integrating someone and it is still an issue. The O.T. and the P.T, the nursing staff got right on it when she got there, she is pretty pleased with them. The personal care and the aides are pretty inconsistent. Some of the aides are fabulous, nice and are accommodating, other aides are not as nice and don't seem very eager to help. No one sat us down and said these are the things we can do for you, these are the things we will do for you. She does enjoy the meals and especially the soup. We did like that all the apartments had kitchens in them as well.

Closet space too small.

The activities are bingo, a couple games, there were some outings. She’s keeping busy. They provided activities. Mother said the food was good, the choices were good. I toured the place when she moved in. After she moved in they didn’t provide internet service. I felt the fees paid should have included internet. I want my mom in a place where she is receives the best care.

I really have no major complaints about them, and up until recently, I would have given them a 4. Due to recent events, I'm beginning to think this may not be the best situation for my loved one, who is still very mentally capable. However, I have confidence in them. The staff are very cooperative and nice, and I hope this works out. It's a great place, and it just might not be the right place for my loved one.

They looked like a funeral home, and they had a smell when you walked in. It was very cold and depressing. The rooms were too small and they shared an adjoining bathroom. If you had dementia and didn't know where you were at it would be ok, but if you are aware, I think it's too cold and sad feeling.

Independent Living, but still far.

This place is great for those on the lower end of the care spectrum. I had a loved one who was here for quite a while as independent living, and they did a great job. However, when she started needing help and had to move to the assisted living things went downhill. You really had to stay on top of them to make sure they weren't just doing the bare minimum when it came to the care and services provided.

Bev was so very nice and attentive! We enjoyed spending time with her and you could really feel her passion for the facilities. Seh greeted guests and was very knowledgeable. The public portions of the facilities looked aged/dated but the individual unit we saw was updated nicely. I believe this would not be a good fit though for my mother as we felt the age range was a little much for her.

Viewed the facility before. It was just okay. Didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from the visit.

Found it a little too large and impersonal. Had a very nice tour guide but did not like the property very much. Great dining room.

Met with Patty June. Very homey, but kind of dreary. Smelled musty. Nice sized apt. View from rooms mostly parking lots. Not as convenient a location as some others for me and didn't offer anything unique that I couldn't find at a more convenient location.

We had been working with them to move Mom in after a rehab stay, but they decided at the last minute that she required more care than they were able to provide, due to a reason that I'm sure had already been discussed when we were placing her. This cancellation at the 11th hour created quite the emergency, and we feel it could have been handled better. The community itself looked nice enough, but we never moved Mom in.

You would think "Oh, that would be a beautiful place to live," but when you go inside there is pipes running along the ceiling and it's not as nice as you would have thought. The apartments themselves are cute but they are very tiny. We couldn't live that crammed up, plus we have two little Yorkies. We also heard that the elevators were a problem.

We briefly looked at the facility and looked at some of the literature. The units were just smaller than we were interested in, so we didn't pursue it further.

We looked at this place because they have memory care but it just wasn't right. It's hard to explain but we didn't feel at peace leaving my mother there. It's nothing against the community, it's just not the right place. So many of them have that smell to them. It wasn't horrible, It just wasn't as good as some other places we saw.

We are concerned over the exposure to Route 26 traffic noise, but it was hard to assess since there was a crew working just off the highway cutting trees or whatever, making noise. Cost was fairly high compared to most of the others. We both liked the intimate setting and low population -- individual acre should be quite good. Room layouts and size were very good. Room size not bad, but we're not sure how companion living would work. It appeared like it was not particularly suitable for walks.

We moved mom because they didn't have room for her and she needed to be in a memory care unit. They changed ownership there in the last 6 to 9 months and I really noticed a decline. When your main people in charge leave a community something's not clicking right, I noticed it wasn't as clean, the staff was pretty good but their food wasn't that great. She kept trying to get out of riverwalk and they're right by the state road so they really felt responsible. It was acceptable but when they changed ownership and the main staff people in all the departments were gradually leaving I just don't think things ran as well. Before the management would check up and see how things were going, I never even met the new people and they didn't keep up with the cleaning.
