Don’t Be Fooled by their Smiles

I agree with the negative review about The HC Assisted Living completely. We were fortunate enough to move our family member out but it took us too long to see through the smiles. Although there were a few good people on the staff, the majority of the staff were awful and lacked the ability to give proper care to the residents. We hired outside care because of the poor staff. We are grateful that we moved our family member out to a compassionate Assisted Living facility where our loved was treated with the respect and dignity seniors deserve. I shudder each time I think about the lack of decency we subjected our loved one to before moving him out of HC. The review regarding the director of Assisted Living is accurate as she looked us in our eyes and never handled the concerns properly. The lies and lack of appropriate care became a nightmare.

Patient Care

The rehab part of this facility is substandard. If you do not have a patient advocate to protect you, you enter this facility at your own risk. After a couple of days of late meds, no response to call button and other "little" issues involving care, it was time to relocate to another rehab facility. The fact that the interior of the rehab wing was beyond tired and in need of rehabilitation and cleaning was not a factor in leaving. It's all about patient care.

Food for thought

My family was told they would take care of my allergies to certain foods and other things. Baloney. I was made ill frequently. My daughter finally started bringing in food for me. They still would serve food containing things that I was allergic to. I had to give them my own laundry soap and softener but they did use them. I lost so much weight that my family had to "rescue" me. They still charged us for an entire month although they were told that if they didn't improve I would be leaving at the end of the month. They charged me for the next month even though they had sufficient warning.

Not reccomended

This was honestly the worst experience I've had in my life. I came in to look around one day around 5:00. There was definitely not enough RA's on the floor! It scared me because there had to be upwards of 50 residents in the facility but for some reason some of the workers said there was only two RA's. If management cannot find enough people to care for the residents then they do not need any more residents! I would not recommend this place of business!

Not Recommended

Independent living doesn't provide check in with residents as promised. Mom was not checked in for 3 days and almost died as a result. Management did not provide any real response to the issue except to say they resolved the issue which they didn't. I would recommend finding a better facility. The staff in general is very nice. Management is lame.

Stay away

The aides are very caring but always doing doubles. They can't say they are short staffed but it's obvious that they are. The executive director does not return phone calls promptly and she does not know her residents. They have lost good caring staff in the past few months all because of poor management. They need to stop caring about census and start caring about the care that they are giving. I can no longer recommend New Seasons at New Britain for family or friends.

avoid the forum at deer creek

my grandmother has dementia and broke her hip. my family put her here thinking that this was a great looking facility but thats about where it ends. the staff is not compassionate at all. they leave her soiled for hours, they dont change her wounds when they have becomes soiled. the more you ask them questions and request someone to come the more they avoid you. she was at tamarac nursing home before we moved her to this awful place even though the facility was run down and didnt have good fun, they cleaned everyday unlike the forum and gave my grandmother loving care. stay away from this place!

Do Not Leave Your Loved Ones Here

The Yonkers property has been declining. Residents' happiness is no longer a priority. Here's why: staff turnover is high. Management turnover is higher. Dining staff is fewer and service is slower. Happy hours are fewer. Entertainment is lower budget and getting lower. No longer is someone on staff around on holidays to greet people and make sure the residents are happy at home. To have a guest for dinner now there is a 10 day notice requirement for 3 people. The dining supervisor made my mom cry when she turned away the grandchildren for dinner. Never happened before but now it is acceptable and management is fine with it. Corporate won't respond to suggestions. Please find another kinder, more caring community - we wish we did. Be careful before moving your loved one to the Forum

We recently moved our mother out of the Forum after realizing the care my mom was receiving was not adequate. The Assisted Living Center we thought at 1st was wonderful, including the support staff and Altha. However, when we needed assistance, our needs fell on deaf ears. The last 3 weeks, when my mom needed a little more attention, the care of the nursing staff got worse. We just wanted our mom to have some compassion but were told by Head of this department, that they are not a memory center, "they are only skilled nursing center". Ironically, most of the residents here have dementia so it's difficult to explain why the nurse staff are not compassionate or understand the nature of this illness. When I asked Management to look into my complaints, they told me they would investigate, it's now 3 weeks later and I am still waiting !!!!!

They could improve on a lot. Going there and talking to them and seeing the property was wonderful. My mom was there for 2 and half days and they totally fell down on the job. My moms caregiver was not wearing her pager and I felt like my mom was being put in harms way. They were very good about coming across and getting us in there, but once she was in there they definitely dropped the ball and I can't imagine putting her in another nursing facility or assisted living because of the care she got there.

I had a terrible experience.

I had a terrible experience. When we first moved there, it was very nice, and they had wonderful staff. But they had an entire staff changeover, and it was just awful. That happened over a year ago. I just pulled my father out of there. It is a very bad place. The cleanliness in the main area was okay, but the cleaning in the rooms was horrible. When we moved, the furniture was so dusty that you could write your name in everything, and they had an ant problem, and we had to buy our own ant traps. The staff didn't even tell my father goodbye. We never had any confrontation with them, but they got angry when we said we were leaving. We had been there almost two years, and not one person said goodbye. They were more expensive than the baseline of where I am now. They didn't do well at all with care and attentiveness. They did give his medications on time, but I tried to up his care package, but I came in several mornings and found that he had slept in his clothes all night, nobody had come to help him get ready for bed. The activities director took him down to some at first, and he fell asleep, and she would tell me that he slept through it, and then not take him. They took him on a picnic, and they told me that he wasn't allowed to go on the outings anymore without a full time caregiver to go with him, because he needed help to use the bathroom. They fulfilled the base obligation, and would come in and yell that it was happy hour, but never went out of their way to include him. He would just be sleeping all day everyday. The food was terrible, a lot of times it was unrecognizable, I stopped eating there it was so bad. One day I went in there and he was sitting at the table and he hadn't had his lunch yet, and the gal told me he ate, and he hadn't eaten. They didn't pay attention to the residents and how they felt and what they said. I think their ratio of resident to caregiver is way out of line I don't think they have enough staff to take care of people. He fell one time recently and they didn't call me and tell me until the next day, they told me he just had a little bruise on his shoulder and his whole face was scraped up. I don't want people to get tricked into this. They told me over and over that they would get him in his pajamas at night. On my fathers 100th Birthday they did absolutely nothing, other than a balloon on his door that said Happy Birthday Harold....that's not his name, and never has been, and he had been there over a year at that time. He asked me "Who the heck is Harold?" This was just awful.

Alzheimer's Patients Beware

Their Memory Care unit is just that. It would be great for someone that is just "forgetful" but they are not equipped to care for someone with Alzheimer's and behavior patients with Alzheimer's exhibit. My relative was given a 30 day notice to get out with no help in finding other facility for his care. His behavior was typical for Alzheimer's.

Dissatisfied

We only lasted 2 days at Devon Senior Living before the RN there had my mother sent to the hospital and turned out from the facility. So far my sister has sent two emails to the executive director asking for an accounting of why our mother was evicted and when we will be seeing a refund. Tomorrow will be a week and we still have not had a response from the facility. Our next move will be to contact the Better Business Bureau.

Don't Be Fooled - All That Glitters Isn't Gold! Stay Away!!

My relative was in assisted living there. Looks nice, but there are a lot of bad things going on there. They gave male aides keys to her apt. without telling her - never even had the respect to introduce her to them. So when she saw a strange man roaming around her apt., she got very frightened - she said "suppose I was undressed or in the bathroom?" When I informed the manager of AL about this, I was promised it would not happen again - it did. She was supposed to receive reminders about activities in the building, as she has dementia & can't remember when something is going on - most of the time they didn't bother to tell her (she was paying for reminders), so she sat alone doing nothing in her apt. When she first came there, they didn't tell me to take her medication with me in case we came back after 10:00 PM. So when we returned from the evening after 10:00 PM, they REFUSED to give her her meds - which they kept locked in her drawer in her apt. She needed them to stay well, yet they refused to give them to her! Also, the elevators in the AL building could be death traps (especially in the heat of the summer), as there is no ventilation in them, & it is VERY hot when the doors close. There is a fan u can hear, but it is covered up by the light. Whenever the elevator breaks down, which was a few times in the few months my relative was there, they take their good old time to fix it, & in the meanwhile, the resident has to walk, depending where their apt. is & which elevator is broken, all the way around the square to get the elevator to go downstairs, & then, all the way back around again to get to the main building once they get downstairs. Also, no common sense here. When there was a hurricane approaching, they brought in the plants from her terrace, & the bugs with them. Instead of spraying them first (common sense), they didn't. She therefore got bugs all over her apt. There are many more bad things that happened there, but too many to list on here.

This nursing home is horrible . There...

This nursing home is horrible . There is one staff member who is extremely mean and ignorant and talked down to a visitor. I will be contacting a higher up person to have this person removed or doing further action. [removed] The rest of the nursing staff is really good. If they talk down to a visitor imagine how they talk to their residents. ?

Do Not Recommend Assisted Living

I would not recommend this facility for assisted living. They made promises to me that were not kept. I lost money as I had to remove my parent and find different living arrangements. Sam Ogden, the manager, was totally uncaring and unhelpful.

I would not have anyone put their loved one there at all.

There were maybe two people that were friendly. The management is awful! I would not have anyone put their loved one there at all. They told me that she would have all these activities and they just didn't happen. Property went missing. I asked several times what was covered and they said there was only one thing I would have to furnish, but shortly after there was a whole list of things I needed to provide, sheets, towels, etc. They tried to get me to sign a lease saying that I would pay a whole year if we had to moved. They were not truthful, and basically called me a liar! It was literally awful. They just plain did not watch her. They charged 600 dollars to evaluate her, I didn't hear about this until I had already signed the papers.
