Legend at Capitol Ridge

There were problems with staff the entire time he was there. Washington not impressed with Legend. Facility is fine. It's all about staff, which changes all the time. I was there two weeks ago and didn't recognize anyone. Best advice is that you are your relatives best advocate. Ask lots of questions and hold them to what they say they will do. The current staff may be wonderful, but during the time [name removed] was there a change in staff didn't help at all. We had to push constantly for his room to be cleaned. He "lost" clothes, watches, cds and DVDs while he was there.

My mom was previously a resident at Arbor House Reminisce and it was not a good experience. My mom was only there for 2 weeks and we took her out after she fell and ended up in the ER. The level of care was nothing like we had been promised. The 1 to 6 ratio was a lie and my mom lost 11 pounds in 14 days. We've been caring for her with private care ever since.

I had to move here because my husband need help during the night and assistance with bathing...

My husband & I moved here to get help for my 93-year old husband who suddenly was unable to walk because of long-term periphery neuropathy. He needed help during the night to go to the bathroom and needed assistance with bathing. Within two weeks, we discontinued pushing the "Help Pendant" because we would wait as long as 50 minutes and each new night person needed to be instructed on how to help. This wasn't conducive to getting back to sleep. I told my husband we should get a discount in our monthly payments, but he didn't want to "ruffle any feather"...I continued to help him each night. He later developed 30 lbs of fluid and congestive heart failure got worse. He was eventually on six diuretic medications and eventually needed to either get up every 1-2 hours in which we set an alarm and still soaked pads for the beds and bedding until he resorted to wearing "diapers" with double men's pads in the diaper. The dining room is TERRIBLE! It should be the highlight of Legend

The staff really was great. My parents are very difficult and hard to please. They were probably much younger than the average resident which did not help. It cost them a ton of money to move and then move right back. Total waste of time and money. The food was awful.

Not the place for anyone that needs level 4 or above care.

Prairie House in Broken Arrow does not have the staff available to provide level 4 care. Especially overnight. If your loved one needs help to get in and out of bed and in and out of the bathroom, expect them to wait a long time.

Nice Look; Needs Finesse in Integration

They could work better at integrating new residents. Probably not because they did not integrate my parents well and then asked me to take them home. They seem to need social workers or people with finesse in dealing with elderly. It's a shame because the place is beautiful and the first sales rep made it sound like they were good at meeting people where they are at but I see now that was a sales job. That said, it's not entirely on them. My parents aren't easy it turns out-- though they were never difficult people before.

Our families experience

The nurse at the time was very unpersonable. The management should have been more upfront about being short staffed ( and other things). When I got back from my trip I arranged with the management for him to move to Broomfield. The nurse in Broomfield was unprepared and annoyed. Nor was the room available that we had originally signed the contract for. Within the 1st week we had to go in for a meeting about his poor care...ie) he is diabetic and had strokes. At 11am he had not been gotten up yet. He was sitting on side of his bed in wet briefs with his breakfast unopened in the kitchen area out of reach. Another night had slept all night on a mattress had thrown up on. I was planning on bringing him home but he got a UTI infection and was sent to hospital then rehab. 2 other residents also went to hospital that same day. After that I brought him home no one followed up with me. It also took a long time and a few calls to get some necessary paperwork that I needed. The facility was beautiful and some of the staff were good but overall I felt the management cared more about their business than the residents. I also know other residents who had similar complaints about personal care. In their defense I understood the staffing issues were partly due to Covid. Should not have to worry about their loved ones care in an expensive facility. My husband has since passed away.

Disappointing

I would not recommend this facility for numerous reason. In summary, we moved my mom in the summer of 2022 and this was her first time in assisted living. Everything was good until she moved in. My mom was extremely social, kind to everyone and never met a stranger. First issue, a care giver refused to bring my mom's meal to her room as a punishment for not wanting to go to the dining area. We were ghosted by the Marketing Director when reporting this as her job was done after we signed the lease. Maint was unresponsive and useless. The head RN lacks compassion and seemed unethical. There's a small tight group of caregivers that made things very uncomfortable as a result of my mom not addressing them with "yes ma'am". We installed cameras which caused retaliation. Food was horrible. All concerns were reported, nothing resolved. We moved my my out and in the process she passed away. Thanks Legend for making her last year miserable and causing the family much worry during her stay there.

Would not recommend for those with advanced Alzheimer's where higher care is required

My father had pretty advanced Alzheimer's and so we were specially looking for a memory care facility that we thought had a higher level of care than others, but it turned out that wasn't the case. Initially my dad needed some assistance with eating and prompted to drink water, but they were not really able to provide this consistently, resulting in him being hospitalized twice with severe dehydration and lost a lot of weight. He also had several falls, many in the middle of the night, so it was just not enough supervision for the state he was in. In retrospect he would have been more cared for in a hospice facility or more a supervised hospital care type center. After the two hospitalizations, my dad passed away only after being in the facility for less than six months. Several other patients passed away within weeks of him, which I'm sure happens, but many were from declining after falls, some covered in bruises , etc. I would recommend the facility if patients do not require assistance with eating/drinking , are able to communicate and somewhat independent without fall risk. This facility had little activity programming.

could not recommend

Not a good experience in memory care house. No activities. Always had TV on and everyone sitting around. Staff called me often because my dad was "agitated" and wanted me to leave work to help handle him. Called EMS one night and had him taken to hospital because he was agitated. I'd say most staff is not qualified to handle dementia/memory patients. Meds were being changed constantly, which I'm sure caused most of the agitation. My dad was moved to a care facility where they do activities with their people (they post pics on social media with permission). they added on fees to the monthly rate for incontinence, TED hose, med management, etc. These fees were not for supplies. They were for taking off/putting on TED hose and changing the undergarment. The monthly fee was quoted at around [fee removed], but, once fees were added it was almost [fee removed]

Review for The Landing of O'Fallon

Started out ok but not impressed. We picked this community, because it was newer and my loved one and I both got a good feeling (good sales staff because have not felt like we have gotten what we were sold)

Tour experience

The memory care rooms at harbor chase are TINY. No closets, no room to store anything. They said there's no closets because the memory care residents get confused by the doors but I find that hard to believe. You need to provide an armoire and there's no way that's enough room for diapers, wipes, bed pads, and clothes. The memory care area is one big wide open area and it doesn't have a homey cozy feel. When we were there the TV was blasting and you couldn't really get away from the noise if you wanted to. The assisted living side looked great.

Not what it appears!

We moved my father here in [date removed]. It seemed too good to be true. We quickly found out that everything we had been told was too good to be true. While the facility is beautiful and we were more than pleased with his caregivers who were kind, loving and available, we were very disappointed in the director, the activities, the food and the lack of response to concerns. The director was not accessible. After multiple efforts to have someone address our concerns and even meeting with corporate staff, we gave up and moved my dad into another near [date removed] by assisted living in Rockwall. It has been a wonderful change! My father is so much happier and we are so pleased. Our family does not recommend Rock Ridge. It has too many unaddressed problems that administration does not appear to find of concern.

Our family had an in person tour with Atria McCandless and based on based on our tour experience we thought that the community was a little to modern of an atmosphere and just did not get a good feeling.

Disappointed

I took my mother out of Legend at Broomfield after just a month. During that month, she fell at least 3 times and twice was sent to the ER with staples or stitches for serious wounds. They could not guarantee me that they would care for her and watch her closely. It is a beautiful place -we looked at several facilities and thought this was the best fit. We were so excited when we moved her in, but it turned out to be disappointing experience.

Overpriced with good food

This place is a bit overpriced when compared to other communities with the same services and features. When we visited the smell of urine and feces almost knocked us over, I know that is to be expected sometimes in elderly homes, but this was a very powerful odor. We also saw some residents crying out for help, the sales manager yelled something at one of them and laughed. This made us very uncomfortable. We did get stopped by a resident who raved about the food and the people, and seemed very happy to be there. We did think the menu looked good. The location is also very good, we just couldn't get over the price being so much when other places are similar for less cost and much less odor.

Not recommended

Unprofessional and uncalled for comments and refusal to give info by nurse [name removed]. My loved one missed 2/3 meals per day despite my pleadings to wheel him in to eat if they had to. He lost weight, they let him sleep through meals. Bathing was an issue. They didn't put him on the list for Podiatry and he had pain from walking due to super long toenails. Suggestions for improvement: Decrease staffing turnover. Improve management's education on all manner of ALF responsibilities: monitoring patients for signs of decline, falls, security, communication with families. I could go on and on.

Careful consideration

I would say probably not a good place for someone that is more needy in the senior living section. That the memory care is good though. The head [ name removed], is not the most forth coming or professional.
