Care and Cleanliness Declined

Both of my parents were moved to the Oaks in October of 2021. We were very pleased for the first 9 months. After the new ED took over, cleanliness and care on the Assisted Living side went down hill. I would not recommend moving a family member there.

Place has really gone down since Grand Opening

Attended grand opening a couple of years ago and I would have said this was the premier community within a 60 mile radius. I was impressed by the management , the staff and when I walked around all the people living there looked happy. I was in the area and decided to take another look around. I have an aunt that I’d really like to move in soon.I left so disappointed. No one is there from management. The place was dirty and gloomy. Even the staff member that helped us acted unfamiliar and was in a rush to show me around. I left there feeling as I bothered the staff by walking in to look around. She took my name and number and was going to call me when she got the answers to a few questions I had and it’s been a couple of weeks and I haven not received a call. I noticed a unpleasant smell as we toured the building. I would expect that if I was touring a nursing home but didn’t expect to smell an odor at this place. It’s completely gone downhill since the last time I visited..

Not pleased with our experience

I would tell others we did not have a good experience. They promised a lot of things that they did not follow through on. For instance my loved one has celiac so they told us they would be able to feed our loved one a gluten free diet and that did not happen. Administration was not responsive at all and I think they will say whatever they can to get you in here.

Not a good experience

I would want others to know when looking into Gardens of Fayetteville that they say a lot to get you to go there, but it is nothing like what they say. For example, my father has Celiac and he cant have gluten products, they said they could handle that. Then once he moved in they said they don't have gluten free meals. They said they had a lot of activities for residents as well but then they would cancel all the activities. The staff members here were not friendly at all even to our family members, we did not like how they treated him. Overall, we did not have a good experience.

Long term resident opinion

My mother was a resident from January of 2014 until April of this year. Some of the staff are long term and really good. Seem to care about the residents. A lot of turnover in upper managment and nursing supervisors. Frankly the place is a bit run down considering every year the cost went up and I did not feel that they were really equipped to deal with the issues of most of the residents. The food was on the better side. But like every other place the staff isn't "highly" trained nor are they adequately compensated. Which impacts care. At best it's a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Care is suffering under new management!

My mother has been living in the assisted living for 4 years and the care was very good until the new company, five star took over. The whole management staff has quit and many of the caretakers. The new company is not paying competitive wages and as we all know you get what you pay for. Change is hard for the elderly and now I have no other choice but to move my mom. Look elsewhere.

I Do Have My Concerns

I do have my concerns about this community, and my mother living here. I would say their responsive time, needs to quicker. Also they need to keep me inform on changes the community is going to have. I will be having a meeting with the director to voice my concerns. Hopefully they are willing to work with m, but if not I will have to consider other options.

poor communication between shifts. unexplained injuries to my spouse with severe Dementia. When I asked for a meeting concerning these injuries, no one had a clue how they happened, and at the same meeting, the cost of care was increased so much that I was forced to relocate him. Dogwood is cosmetically nice. Dogwood has wonderful commercials, BUT... it's all about the money. I would not recommend Dogwood Forest to anyone who has a loved one in their memory care unit.

One room had screened porch. Resident dog is awesome. Long corridors with old yellow ceiling lighting made it look dismal. Nice nooks for reading. Good looked terrible..canned peas and something in identifiable. Memory care unit for transitioning.

Lack of Communication/Dirty

Put my Mom in for Memory Care. Fell after 4th night and was never the same. The Caregivers there were great but there was a severe communication problem between staff. Directors, Nurses, Med Tech's they all did not pass on information to each other. There needs to be a daily log for each patient as to how they are doing, changes in meds, etc.... If there is one, they don't use it. I even told caregiver that patients was choking. They said the patient needed "Thicken it" and her family had not brought any in. Another caregiver asked the person in charge and she said "Oh no, she doesn't get that anymore and hasn't for about a month now". The Caregiver asked her if it was in the log book and the person in charge said no it wasn't!!! The Memory Unit was also pretty dirty! They have one person cleaning and maintenance and he does not do a good job. At first glance it looks nice but look again at the filth!

Not impressed by this place

We toured this location when we were looking into care options for a loved one. We were immediately turned off by what we saw and did not stay long. The facility just seemed to have a general lack of cleanliness, and there was a noticeable odor when we walked in. It was enough that we did not stay for the full tour and left after a few minutes.

The memory care unit here was not a good experience for us. Our loved one was there for 7 month and fell 9 times. It seems like the there is just not enough staff to take care of the amount of residents. The staff is super kind and the community was really clean. The food was well prepared as well. The problem was with the care services, they just did not have the amount of staff they need to run it properly.

Was not impressed by the reception staff. She was very helpful about getting us in touch with the director because there was confusion about the appointment, but other than that her professionalism lacked. Really appreciated the director, and the individual rooms were wonderfully updated and appointed. Not impressed by the memory care facility nor the staff of the facility. Memory care was not "locked down" but had an alarm on the door instead. When the alarm went off, they didn't pay any extra attention to it. The Memory Care section was very smelly and didn't seem overly clean.

Bad and getting worse

Yes, Northlake Gardens is dated and a bit shabby. However, that's not the worst thing. The worst thing is the quality of the care. While a few of the care givers do seem to really care about the residents, most don't seem to. They are rude, unfriendly and don't smile (maybe because they are under paid and under staffed). There have been many days where my mom was left wet in bed all day. There is high turnover at all levels of the staff: from the director to the nurse to the caregivers. Much of the time there was not a nurse on staff. The corporation that owns Northlake is cutting costs on all levels and does not have the best interests of the residents at heart. We are moving my mom.
