The overall cleanliness of the facility is as good as it gets; however, the floor nurses are not very good at cleaning my parents' room and I have had to call them in on a regular basis. For example, one day I came in and the bathroom stunk of urine. In terms of care, they should be ashamed of themselves. I hired personal aides that are with my parents 24/7. The floor nurses see this and don't lift a finger to help. I've also seen the way they treat other residents at mealtimes. They sort of shove a spoonful of food at them and generally have a pretty careless attitude. So what exactly am I paying for? As far as I can tell, a one bedroom apartment with food and activities included. For the money (being in NYC) I guess it's okay. Let me know if you'd like to chat. I realize that all facilities are sort of like this except for the very best like Sunrise around the corner from me, but that's $[removed]/month. I just didn't know how poor the overall care was in the general industry. They are for profit institutions and they understaff to make money. Anyway, that's my feedback.

My experience

Right up there appears to be a great attitude towards anyone interested in moving here, but underneath the true attitude will shine after you move in. I've been here for almost fourteen months and not a single light in the dining facility has been changed out it didn't work. They do dutifully take care of the trash. I took a summary of the meals to a nutritionalist and after a brief review I was told that there was "nothing nutritious" on the list (daily summary of the week). In thirteen months they haven't completed work on the rain gutters but instead fight with the flooding in the lower rooms forcing them to move to another room.

Our Experience

The biggest issue my wife and I had was performance. Food was good. The place is very clean and well kept. Management staff was great....explained how my mother in law would be cared for. The problem is that outside of medication management, which is outrageously high, everything else fell short. She was charged as a Level 3(2 person assist). After about 4-5 days of rehab and my wife walking with her, she was basically on her own. No one came for her for meals as we were told. She got up and walked herself to the dining room. Walked herself to activities. Bottom line is that they need more staff. But based on the number of empty rooms we saw on my mother-in-law's wing, I can see why they don't. Would I recommend them to a friend.....yes.....with the caveat that they better watch their loved one closely! I only say that because what I've learned from this whole experience and talking to friends.....Overlook is no better or worse than most of the other homes in this area.

Not entirely good. Management is poor at communicating . Turnover in staff is primarily due to pay. Food has improved dramatically under new Dietary Director and servers are very good. Activities are good in general but can change with little notice. Need to limit to independent residents who have mobility and are mentally alert.

A few things to know about legacy heights...

They have had quite a bit of staff turnover in the past year but I think that is pretty normal for the industry. Everyone is very nice, but I feel that they could have more communication on a regular basis with the relatives of the residence. I.e. a weekly update newsletter or email or something just to see given overview of how they're doing what's going on what things they participated in similar to something you would get from a preschool. for a memory care resident that is more of a roamer.... I feel that when they have certain group activities in their main area that they should have workers by the entries to where the residents go back to their rooms to redirect them back to the activity. understandably not every resident wants to do every activity, but when there are big activities like a music event or something like that for the socialization, I think it would be good to keep them all together and engaged in that event. They do not currently do that and allow the residents to wander back to their rooms or to the TV room or whatever but they already spent so much time doing that. I think it's better to keep them engaged in a more stimulating activity. Lastly, they do have different seminars and about memory care dementia all timers educational things that I think are great for the relatives of the residence but if you cannot attend in person, they don't record these and then email them out to people that live long distance, which I've asked for numerous times, but never receive a response for so that's disappointing because they could easily do that. So if you are out of the immediate area you don't get access to any of that information, which is a shame.

The move in was flawless. The food at Franciscan Manor was very nice, but no one helped my 102 year old Mom open containers. She was paralyzed on her dominant side. She was afraid of a few of the aides, felt that they were too rough. Others were very kind. The billing was a slight problem, no one addressed billing concerns monthly regarding items that Hospice provided, we were charged. They finally corrected it when she passed.

I put all 3's because it's an average place in all ways. My dad is comfortable there, so that makes me happy. When my dad first got there, he said the food was good. But he noticed that it has gotten worse in the last 3 months. There is a lot of staff turnover. The transportation has been very reliable. He also appreciates housekeeping. He likes the grounds, too.

keep up the good work at improving this facility

Administrators and supervisors were great. Staff could have been more attentive. They were doing some great improvements with new furniture etc. but weren't the best at cleaning the residence rooms. My mom is not there anymore. There was little staff at night especially. My mom fell and ended up in hospital and now in another facility.

Our Experience

On the surface, the staff seems to be friendly, but as far as quality of care there are some who do as little as possible. There is little consistency of what they are supposed to do and what they actually do. They are understaffed at night and not equipped if something happens and someone needs assistance. (Ex. I was there and there was no nurse on staff to give someone medicine only aides who were not authorized to do so. They wanted to send someone to the hospital that only required some cough or allergy medicine)The administrative staff is not approachable. They are hard to set meetings with and very defensive if you have a concern. They are more concerned with the business side of it than the actual welfare of the residents. They do not seem to realize the challenges family members face when choosing a place for their loved ones. It is a hard adjustment on everyone and after paying the $[removed] fee that is non returnable and really not understood what it goes to you are kind of stuck if you are unhappy with your parent's care. They do not seem to want to partner in making it better for your loved ones, they just seem to be defensive and abrasive when hearing your concerns. In the beginning we were told that meals with our loved one was encouraged and as time went on they acted like it was an inconvenience for staff members to host other people even though we were paying for our own meals. Meal prices raised from $7 for dinner when my loved one first got there then went to $10 then to $16 in 6 months! I felt like it was a way to discourage me from eating with my loved one.

Review for Huntington Place

It was like home. Different rooms open to the residents , game room with pool table, fireplace rm with tables full kitchen and patio. Sun room with nice couches and coffee tables to look at the beautiful back yard.

My Experience

Park Place seems to be a good place for older people, most of the residents are in their 80s and 90s. It says it's an all inclusive place, but it's not. You have to pay for your lunch. The cooks are okay, but definitely not chefs. The staff in the kitchen are the best, most friendly and try to accommodate the best they can. The facility is okay, just not the right fit for me.

Review for Overlook Green Senior Living

It's in a safe area and the food is pretty good. They try to have activities for the residents. Some of the staff are the best people you will meet but unfortunately there are some bad eggs there also and it makes you question the care being given to your loved ones. Probably find that everywhere though. Those people have a tough job. I really appreciate what they do. If I had to do it again, I would consider Overlook Green for sure.

Good Place

My mother loves it which is most important but I would say to ask a lot of questions. We picked this community because of the helpfulness of the agent. I would recommend to others.

Our Experience

My loved one was previously a resident at The Forum. It was very very expensive, about an average of 8% yearly rent increases. The food was not good. Staffing didn't care. Maintenance was okay. The facility is worn and old and needs new carpet, paint. Smells bad in the hallways. The 2 bedroom that my loved one had was nice, but we had to pay for new flooring and to have it painted before she moved in.

I have been some what disappointed in my experience. The facility is physically acceptable. However, I have found some members of the staff to be disappointing. This is my first experience in community living and it is not living up to my expectations. I have explained my misgivings to the Sales Director, [name removed]. She was receptive to my constructive criticism and hoped to be able to improve upon my negative remarks. She was very understanding and cooperative. I believe that I am a friendly individual, but I have not been able to connect with any of my peers.

Not for us!

It's a beautiful property but they routinely violate the first three rules of care they have posted. They routinely took things from my loved ones room without telling them. The final straw was when they rearranged her room while she was at the pool with a caregiver. They did it without asking or telling anyone and left and extension cord across the only path to her bed making her room more dangerous! We picked this community, because it looked beautiful and it was small and my mother was having mobility issues. Since receiving better care at another facility, she is super active and back to driving again.

Experience so far.

Five Star recently increased their prices considerably. They have a new food service company which we thought was going to mean better food but that has not happened. There are frequent issues with the heat and air conditioning I assume due to the age of the building. Staff is quick to address but still an issue. I would recommend them, these are the critiques but I am not unhappy with her being there. I'm sure there are issues everywhere. She has a roof over her head and is safe. I have a different experience with the staff than she does, they are always super friendly to me and for the most part with her too.
