Five Star Senior Living

It isn't as good as everyone says it is. It's getting more like a memory care and assisted living place NOT independent living. Management is to busy keeping corporate happy then their residents. The activities person has no back bone they let bossy residents walk all over them. They never smile or know how to have fun. Not Five Star anymore!

The facility's follow up is poor at best. Issues have come up over the last 9 months and their response time is unacceptable.. had to email the director of the facility on a few occasions and even then the response time was slow. There is definitely a disconnect between operations / administration/ and Nursing. We moved mom and dad in 9 months ago and never heard back from Sales or Operations manager. Good dog and pony show. The facility operates on a "level of care point system". They will not provide us with a list of services they provide for each level of care. We felt that the facility wanted to up charge at every opportunity within the first 6 months. The facility claims they do light cleaning only to see that the workers push the dirt around. Each time we inspect after the cleaning, we find crumbs and dirt on the floor because they they didn't do a thorough job. We brought up the issue to the facility manager who said that should have never happened but it never changes. The workers are very friendly and kind. There is no consistency at all. The Nursing staff do not pass on messages between shifts or follow up for anything requested. The food is very good. If Mom and Dad can't make it to any meals in the dining room, they check on them and make sure they have their meals. Mom & dad chooses not to participate. No opinion The facility appears to be not as expensive as the other facilities we toured but the overall quality of the service is too expense.

We were only there 3 days. The nurse made the decision to send him back to allied skilled due to his transfers. He required 2 people to transfer . I feel if they gave him time and training of her staff they would have been able to do the transfer using 2 people. Overall everyone was very nice , clean facility , food was good, and move in process was good. I have no negative complaints.

What has made Somerford House and Place Hagerstown such a great experience so far, is the staff members they have working there. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

The facility was nice and the administration seemed friendly enough, but we were not able to move my mother in because her condition became worse and she had to go to skilled nursing. To recommend this place, I would tell families to read the fine print thoroughly. Since my mom didn't move in, they would only refund part of the deposit and none of the first months rent, even though she or her things were never moved in. Because of this, I would lean against not highly recommending.

The building is nice, with comfortable apartments. The housekeeping keeps everything clean and orderly. The food is good, though the dining room service can be slow. But the activities scheduled are pretty mediocre. They used to be better with the other lifestyle director. There isn't much offered that isn't an exercise class. I was led to believe this was only a temporary thing. Even during Covid there were more interesting activities.

We toured the Remington Club during our search for an Assisted Living/Memory Care facility for our loved one. This facility was nice, but they did not have Memory Care. The cleanliness and friendliness seemed good.

It is hard to say if we would recommend this community or not. The kicker was when our mother passed we were not notified by Heartlands we heard from Gilchrist hospice. When this was addressed with Heartlands they said there was one digit wrong on the phone number. But they had 3 numbers, mine, my brother's and my wives. One I could understand, 2 maybe, but all three is hard to believe. One other thing is when we make the initial visit we were shown a handicapped room, my mother was not mobile and the handicapped room would work, well we never got a handicapped room even after asking several times. She was also supposed to be given a Lidocaine patch, on for 12 hours, off for 12 hours. The last day the patch had been on for 24 hrs. The nurse was not aware. In hindsight, to do it all over I would have kept my mother in her home. It would have been more costly but she would have had better care and would have been more comfortable.

I picked this community because, I really liked the apartment unit chosen. Provided all required amenities and proximity to extra storage, garbage room and facilities.Be very thorough, ask a lot of questions and take notes to make sure what is presented is actually what ends up in contract.

This place is no longer that good. They have more residents than workers. The food is not as good as it once was. Some of the staff that remain are not that well trained.they give you a pendent to ring for help. You will be waiting for ever. The residents are friendly andnice.

My mother is on a very limited income. After one year, they sent intention to raise the rent. My mother being quite upset; I contacted Fountainview by email and explained the financial problem. They responded and asked if I would like to request a rate increase exemption. I answered in the positive. I requested an exemption and asked if there was any formal procedure to be followed. That email was on [date removed]. A month has gone by (today is [date removed]), and still no response. I tried emailing and calling many times. Voicemails and emails are not answered. the increase is supposed to go into effect [date removed]. Very frustrating.

We toured The Court at Palm Aire during our search for an Assisted Living facility for our loved one. This facility seemed a little sad, but the staff there are so nice. I have a friend that has a loved one who lives here and I have heard that the food is not so good.

The rooms are clean but bathrooms okay. Not comfy. Staff friendly but it was superficial. When I expressed concerns about my mom they didn't follow up. Care was not good. I had concerns about my mom's feet edema, no one ever checked on her. They talked a good talk but mostly just sat at the desk. Meals and Dining satisfied my mom. My mom was not able to participate in the activities. Cost is prohibitive for what they provide. Extra charge for med administration, extra charge if they need help showering. Many other extra charges. When my mother was there we were paying [name removed] a month and it was not worth it. I would not recommend this community to anyone. It's like everything about Tellico Village, they think everyone has money and the hallways and atmosphere at The Neighborhood was like a low class nursing home.

The staff is mostly friendly and quick to learn about mom at Five Star Residences of Fort Wayne. Communication with the family is not great, it would be better if regular meetings or updates could be scheduled with the family. The food is excellent. They offer a good variety. This facility could improve their interactions with new residents and their families after move- in. The first few weeks were very difficult and stressful.

We toured with Five Star Premier Residences of Boca Raton and the facility looked like it could use a facelift. There was also no nurse on call 24/7 there. We were more impressed with another facility we were looking at.

My loved one is a resident at Voorhees Senior Living. This facility is not as expensive as others in the area. We have found that many Assisted Living facilities are over priced, even this one for what they provide. This facility needs to pay more attention to the caliber of staff that they hire. The facility itself is a very well constructed building with beautiful grounds.

I'm not sure if you can see the notes from my family's search, but I have a Nursing Degree, so I kind of knew what to look for. While, in my opinion, they provide care, my dad's Alzheimer's is too advanced for them to provide the necessary care for him. There were a few HIPA violations that I noticed and there were little to no activities. It would have been more stressful on my mom and my family even though he would have been much closer. Sorry to be so blunt. I'm sure it's fine for some, but not my family

Not so good for only being there for 45 days. Communication is not the greatest but told in the beginning was not what I was seeing, I believe they just want to keep their rooms filled, quantity not quality. Of course as with any place, come and see for yourself how it is.

The actual facility was in a nice area & the building was nice. The communication was decent. The staff was very friendly, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the day to day care.I would recommend Devon senior living to a friend. However, there are definitely some things I would do differently and monitor specific things more closely. This was my first experience with having a loved one in a facility, so I learned a lot.

Our loved ones apartment was not move-in clean at all. Very dirty toilet & shower was full of paint dust & calking remnants. Same in the kitchen. A [fee removed] "move-in" fee should pay for an immaculate apartment! Staff overall are excellent-professional, yet friendly & caring. Very impressed w/several young men that go above & beyond in their concern for my mother & her safety. My mother has her own caregiver but the Remington staff is friendly & has been helpful at times. Housekeepers are just adequate. Kitchen staff are friendly, courteous & helpful. Some meals are very good. Some are just ok. Tons of great activities, my mother is not taking advantage of them like she should. She does do the chair exercise & yoga once in awhile Once the remodel is complete it will be modernized & a very beautiful building! We love the location! Couldn't be better or more convenient for our family. My mothers apartment has brand new flooring & carpet in the bedroom. Living room & Bedroom are very nice sized! She's in Remington 2 which has been under major remodel since she moved in. Another great benefit at the Remington is that almost all apartments have their own little patio. My mother has a little dog & she really enjoys that! There has been some considerable inconvenience due to all the construction & demoing floors etc. I think the [fee removed] price is fairly reasonable but is reflective of this. The rent includes [fee removed] in dining which is really great!!
