Five Star Senior Living

My parents are doing very well since their move. The reduction in responsibilities is a breath of fresh air to them. They have housekeeping and meals provided, they get excited talking about what will be for dinner, or what activities they will be joining. The facility had a pool and activities center as well as covered parking. The location is perfect, they are close top restaurants and stores which were important to them. It has been a very good experience for them and they are happy.

My 91 year old mom is moving into 5 Star tomorrow and we have been working with the staff at 5 Star on this process for the past month. The Move-in Coordinator has gone above and beyond to assist us with this complicated move from Florida to NY City. The entire staff including the front door receptionist and the waitresses in the restaurant are very patient, competent and polite. As an example one of the hearing impaired residents was ordering her meal and the waitress was very patient in completing her order. The food is excellent, the portions are large and fresh and reasonably priced using the point system. The deserts are home made and delicious. All the public bathrooms were clean and there were many cleaning staff in the building each time I visited. The residents were sitting around the public areas talking and enjoying their time together. Many were watching the movie of the day in the screening room. My mom's 1 bedroom apartment is very large by NY standards and her view is breathtaking. I can't wait until my mom moves in to experience this great atmosphere.

I was totally impressed with Palms gardens the Sales Rep [Removed] was outstanding. Not only did she follow up she walked me through the registration process. My Mother has a room the closest to the dinning room and is getting excellent medical care. Everything they promised and more has been delivered. The staff is very attentive. After talking with [Removed] and hearing what she liked about what they offered, and, at the time they had a special, my mother-in-law decided to move in. The strong Catholic community was a bonus for her also. She is pleased with the many activities. While it was difficult for her in the beginning, the staff and residents went out of their way to talk to her and make her feel comfortable. She likes the selection and flavor of her meals. Her apartment looks nice every time we visit her, no complaints with housekeeping.

I would recommend this community. The staff at this community is unbelievable. Everyone has been so nice to us and we could not have asked for nicer people. I do not care for the food though. The community is clean and the housekeeping does a beautiful job with my apartment. There is always something to do at Palms as it is a very active community.

Don't think we could have found a better place to fill all our needs. We are very happy here!!

As an Educational Director, for The Senior Service Resources Group, (A Non for Profit Dedicated to helping seniors, in their time of need) I visit "Senior Communities" on a regular basis. I have found The Villas at Riverwood, To be extremely Clean and free of odors. The staff, was not only pleasant to deal with, but acted as if they were genuinely glad to be there. (reasonably rare for this kind of environment. I found the residents to be clean, and well cared for. The "Common Areas" were free of clutter. The furniture was comfortable, yet functional, (solid arms, sturdy bases, reasonably firm seats.) Some of the seating, having no arms, suitable for sliding. Residents, appeared to be happy. There were many activities for individuals and groups alike. I would not hesitate to recommend this community to any member of my family.

My parents are doing very well at this community. They have adjusted very well to it, and are extremely happy. The community looks nice, they do a good job with the cleanliness of the community. The staff is kind. There are activities for them when they are ready to participate. The meals are very good, even some of our other family members were impressed. It has been a great experience, and I would recommend this community.

I choose Heartlands for my mother. The staff is caring and recognize and know the residents. The residents are friendly, have great attitudes, and are welcoming to new comers. Heartland's menus are very good and the portions are perfect but food quality-preparation is inconsistent. Table china is old-style ugly institutional. The residents' breakfast area (and lunch if they choose) is a small café-cafeteria; it wasn't clean on the day I used it. I reported that to management and management jumped on it. The independent living apartments are connected to the main building by a corridor; residents don't have to go outside in inclement weather. It is a fairly long walk to the main building. Residential areas have "local" living rooms. The local living rooms are set up with hot beverages, game tables, a TV, and newspapers and books to encourage residents to interact with one another; it works! At dinner time, many residents use rolling walker-chairs to get to the dining room; along the way is a water station with lemon-flavored water, a large bird house with gorgeous tiny birds, and, several rest areas with beautiful views. There is no on-demand transportation; the shuttle van only operates at dinner time. Overall, this facility is very good; the residents like living there, like each other, and will tell you to join them!

I am basing this review on only one month of my mother being a resident at Five Star of Yonkers. Any family going through this process will understand what an agonizing decision it was to move my very resistant 90-year old mother out of her house of 50 years. While it continues to be a challenging transition for her, I feel that we made the best choice for her by moving her to Five Star. It is a lovely, well-maintained facility. My mother is in an independent apartment so I cannot really speak about the assisted living services or accommodations. She has a modern, comfortable one bedroom apartment with "million dollar views" of the Hudson River! Weekly light housekeeping is provided. While she has a full kitchen in her apt., a buffet breakfast and a three-course dinner are included everyday. Unlike the institutional-like dining room and food in many other assisted living facilities, the dining room at Five Star is attractive, the menu has a nice variety and the food is of good quality. There is a diverse offering of activities each day, in addition to trips to museums, stores, local performances, Yonkers casino, etc. We particularly enjoy the Thursday afternoon "Happy Hour" with an open bar, tasty appetizers and live music. The staff for the most part have been cheerful and helpful. I would like to give a shout out to the patient and attentive Monica and her dining room staff and the delightful Move-in Coordinator Agustina who did all she could to help ease the transition. In terms of value for the money, there was no comparison between Five Star and the other places we considered in Westchester and Rockland Counties. We were able to get a "promotional" rent rate as they are renovating and updating the facility. I don't know if this is still available but even the regular rents are reasonable compared to the astronomical rents at most Westchester senior living facilities (shame on those places that expect the elderly to pay rents of $7000 a month and up!) I know everyone's situation is unique - none are easy - but I hope this review will be helpful to some.

My mother has only been in there a week, but she likes it very much. She said the food is very good and the staff is very friendly. She likes the variety of activities offered. The staff has been very responsive to her needs.

I liked this community but it is not as nice as other places. I got to meet with the director who did very well on my tour. My mom was invited to play bingo while I toured but my mom thought this place is not what she wanted. They had a room available on the first floor but my mom does not like being on the first floor.

Great place...with outstanding staff and residents

The new management at Aspenwood is much better than the old regime, no matter what others might say. In fact, both the ED, Joey, and Sharon in Sales were here in 2007 and came back "home." You can tell they love taking care of people. The staff has been very responsive to my mother's every need and she can be a bit difficult to deal with sometimes! I would recommend Aspenwood for anyone looking for a community for their parent or loved one.

We have found Rosewalk Commons to be the right place for mom. The staff and fellow residents have been very friendly and helpful. Everyone welcomed her and made her feel like a part of the community.

After visiting several independent living communities, I find it hard to find any serious problems with the Legacy. What I love most is the ease of paperwork and moving in. Especially, I like the large windows and the amount of light that is always present. No dark, narrow hallways here. Good food and fellowship, close to town, doctors, shopping .Just a great place. Kudos to "A Place for Mom" for helping me find this place.

This is a very nice place. The staff is pleasant and the interact well with the residents. The facility is always spotless. The residents are personable and they seem happy and well taken care of. The activities are great too and seem fun. The food is great and there a several choices on the menu if you don't like what they serve. Excellent.

I really think they do a great job at keeping the residents active and providing them with great activities. They are so friendly and welcoming and it was an easy transition for my loved one because they made it so.

We are very happy with my mother's apartment and care at Cameron Hall of Canton. She felt welcome immediately as the staff is excellent and very responsive to mother's needs. She enjoys the activities with other residents and continues to make new friends. The meals are delicious and she enjoys eating with her friends. The caretakers are well-trained and are very helpful and courteous to the residents. My mother enjoys her home at Cameron Hall.

The facility is nice and always clean. We like the fact that there is a menu for the residents to choose from that varies from day to day. This is a very nice community with a very pleasant and helpful staff.
