Alzheimer's Patients

My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's for years when my family decided to place him in a nursing home. At first glance, it seemed like a very well kept and organized nursing home, but my mother and I quickly noticed the decline in my grandfather's character. He was once very cheery and lively, always loving to walk around; however, the workers at this nursing home constantly medicated him to "calm him." My family was not able to visit him everyday, but over the course of a couple months my grandfather became very reserved and sullen. My grandfather had Alzheimer's for over a decade and had the same character while living at home, but just a few short months at this nursing home and he became a different person. I DO NOT recommend this nursing home, especially if your loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Do not recommend

I would not recommend memory care unit at Marshview. Majority of staff are incompetent and [Removed]. They are not properly trained in how to interact with residents suffering from memory loss. Terrible experience for my family

My family had a very unpleasant experience at this facility. My mother had become completely non-ambulatory and had to move from the personal care home her & my father lived in because they were not licensed to care for non-ambulatory residents. The staff from the Oaks facility, including an admission RN, came and evaluated my mother. They said that they could definitely care for her, were licensed to care for non-ambulatory residents; and accepted her, So, we paid the monthly fee and moved both our parents here, After 6 days, they inform us that they will no longer care for my mother. They now say she is too hard to move (weighs 135 pounds). They then refuse to get her out of bed. They informed me that she had to move immediately. My family had to hire private personal care givers to get my mother up each day & care for her until we found alternative living arrangements. This was a very difficult and stressful time for our family. It saddened us to put my parents through this. The site manager and the owner agreed to refund our community fee but in the end never did. Overall, this was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Not impressed

We toured this facility. Pretty on the outside. Was not at all impressed with the inside or the resident rooms. The rooms are dark, only 1 small window in bedroom. We decided this was not the place for our dad. As a side note, the lady at the front desk was rather rude and unfriendly. Did not have a good feeling here.

Go somewhere else

My grandmother fell in her bathroom and pressed her help button to which a nurse responded. [removed] My aunt arrived in the meantime and took care of the situation. The nurse called me to tell me that my grandma was at an ER but would be okay and would be back to the facility soon. Three weeks ago Grandma fell again while walking to my mother's truck. Grandma uses a walker, but also grabbed the safety railing, which was shaky and caused her to fall. [removed] Grandma will be in the hospital for at least two more weeks and then a rehab facility for a few more weeks. No one from Marshview has called or come by to check on her. When my mom or aunt use Grandma's apartment to shower, they have been ignored by the director, who refused to pay for Grandma's apartment while she is in the hospital.

Observations of a daily visitor

I am giving a poor review because of the many observations I have made on my daily visits at different times of the day. These are not positive observations. Everytime I go in the residents are placed in the TV room and they watch TV and not necessarily programs that enhance there mental capacities.I call it TV sitting. What individual enrichment is it they are suppose to get? Sorry I dont see it. I have had too many conferences and the result is empty promises. The aids are fine as long as corporate is there and Tiffany does her programs/which are wonderful. When corporate leaves its a whole different story. The schedule that is posted is not followed. There is plenty of motivational ng material available including DVD, musicals that get their feet tapping. I guess its easier to turn on the TV without any reguard to appropriateness.I asked an aid to cut my husbands nails which were long and dirty. She hands my tiny ladies clippers. I did specifically ask her to cut his nails/guess I wasnt specific enough. At 7:00 residents faces still had there dinner on their face.My opinion is week-ends are just more TV Aids are not n activity room [removed]. I see isolation of non verbal residents lined up by dining room. No supervision or encouragement to join a group. You dont ask residents if they want to join an activity-you encourage them-take them to the room and make every effort to engage them.

I let my mother down

It appears that they are not set up to actually care for those needing meds after hours, transfer to activities, or who can't care for themselves. The wonderful tour and beautiful facilities counted for nothing compared to the poor care. They tell me changes have been made but no promise or price would get me back there. People since have told me mom required too much care for them to handle. They did an in home evaluation and told me everything would be fine. I don't give bad ratings but I'm very serious about this.

Don't even consider Morninside of Conyers

Moved Mom here 3 years ago, it was wonderful, warm friendly, great activities. Staff was happy and caring. Not so any more. Current Executive Director [removed] has run it into the ground. Very bad morale among staff that has stayed, 96% of the good staff left. The staff begs family members to call the complaint line. Turns out that is not anonymous, they look up the number the call was made from, then send all the information including the recorded message to [removed]. Just started having activities again 2 months ago. Very understaffed, lots of health/safety violations are very evident, like the handicapped front entrance that wouldn't open for 4 days. Washers, dryers, dishwasher and stove are always breaking down, left unpaired for long periods of time. But they have a fancy new doormat! [removed] acts like a prison warden, the only time she smiles is when she is trying to suck in a new resident. She ignores the residents and when family complains about problems, nothing is done.

I visited a loved one over the Memori...

I visited a loved one over the Memorial Day weekend, and I could not believe how much this place has changed since the new owners came in. The place was dirty, trash was over flowing in the room, food from the day before was left in the room, and the smell was sickening. My loved one had not showered in days. It broke my heart to see this happening. We have since moved my loved one out of there. Please do not put your loved one through this.

Please look for another facility

My father in law resided at Gracemont for the last three years. My mother in law died at this facility last year. My wife was always fighting for good care. I recently visited my father in law. I had to fix the wheelchair in his room. Within about ten minutes I was so sick to my stomach by the smell of urine. I went into the bathroom and it was even worse in there. The floor in his bathroom had not been cleaned in so long. I just couldn't believe how bad it was. My mother in law suffered so much more than should of her last ten days of her life because of all of Gracemonts errors. It would take almost an hour to get her medicine. Really hard to watch. Please look for another facility

Tired of fighting for good care

My step father had to be moved out of Gracemont today because of lack of good care. So many days he would still have his dinner from the night before on his table at 11:00 am the next day. By this time the food is really stinking. He is still laying in bed and had not even gotten up. His bathroom stinks so bad because it never gets cleaned. The hospice nurse saw these conditions this week and couldn't believe it. We are just so tired of fighting for good care.

Do Not Put Your loved one Here

My mother resided at Gracemont from Aug of 2012 until January of 2014. In November of 2013, my mom began having very frequent falls, staff was very inconsiderate when these incidents occurred. Her health began declining very rapidly as well. We decided to move her to another facility (The Oaks at Post Road). We moved her in January 2014 due to the lack of care, incorrect meds being given or meds not being given, dirty rooms, poor quality of food, as well as frequent staff turn over. My mother passed away in May of 2014, and I truly believe she would not have lived until May if we had left her at Gracemont. The Oaks at Post Road was an answer to our prayers, I just wish I had placed her there in the beginning. Please do not place your loved one at Gracemont. ADDED JULY 2014 - To the Executive Director of Gracemont Assisted Living. I know you are a new director at Gracemont, because I saw 4 directors come and go between 8/12 - 1/14. Your response to my review is alarming, because you have not truly been there long enough to know what has and continues to go on in your facility. I have written documented dates, and times of incidents that happened within your facility, with documentation where I discussed these concerns with staff. As well as, written plans from the staff to resolve issues, unfortunately, these plans were never implemented and problems continued. Its a shame that such a nice looking facility on the outside is such a disgrace on the inside.

Please please not this facility

Please don't put your loved one in this facility. My mother died in this facility. It was such a nightmare. Gracemont does not lack beauty but it lacks compassion, good care, and cleanliness. Our family prayers that no one else will go thru this. When the new owners took over everything changed. They need to hire more staff to take care of patients better. They have a lot of problems with distributing medicine. I don't think they have the right people distributing it. Please do not move your lived one in the facility. You don't want to live with the guilt that we do

Don't be fooled

Please do not put your loved one in this facility. They are so under staffed and the competent staff they had has left. We waited for over a hour for someone to come and help my mother, and no one could be found. Her medication was found on the floor, the rooms are not kept clean and the food is terrible. Since the new owners came in, everything went downhill fast. There is not always someone answering the phone, so it rings and rings. The even cut the number of outings they do for their residents, probably to save money. It also smells of urine when you walk in the front door. Will be moving my father out of there. Beautiful on the outside, but don't be fooled.

poor management

High turnover rate with staffing. Staff is friendly but hard to develop relationship with anyone due to the turnover rate. Management is horrible. Not friendly caring or respectful to the families of the residents or to the staff. Staff complains on a regular basis about the unfriendly management. Told by staff that this is a main reason for high turnover rate. Good management=happy staff=good assisted living community!

Don't put your loved one here

During the time my loved one was at this facility, the quality of life went quickly downhill. Medications were given incorrectly or not given at all due to the facility not getting the meds refilled and even filled in a timely manner. Staff to resident ratio is terrible. When you need help, no one is ever around.. Staff does not communicate with one another in order to know what is going on with the residents. Staff is very reactive and not proactive at all. Constant excuses for problems instead of trying to resolve the problem. Rooms are not keep clean, due to lack of staff. Overall experience with this facility is Nice Dog and Pony Show, but not at all what it seems upfront. Price is one of the most reasonable in the area, I guess you get what you pay for.
